Howard Cox was one of the original members of the Headquarters Company of First Battalion, 24th Marines. He served as one of the two field musics with the company headquarters section.
Cox saw action in the battle of Namur, and returned to Camp Maui with the rest of the battalion. He saw no further action; after spending the summer at Camp Maui while the division attacked the Marianas Islands, Cox left the battalion.
