Ernest Dondis joined First Battalion, 24th Marines in the fall of 1944. He served as an NCO with the battalion's supply section.
Dondis survived the war unwounded, and took up the study of psychology. He attended California State University in Long Beach for his undergraduate and graduate degrees, then received a Ph.D. from US Berkeley in 1966. He has published a number of academic papers, and is a Professor Emeritus of Pschology at his alma mater.
