Olin England enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve at the age of eighteen. He was stationed with a General Service unit out of Chicago. When World War II broke out, England was advanced in rank to Sergeant, and was transferred to the newly-formed Fourth Marine Division.
With Dog Company:
Sergeant England became a section chief with Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served with the 81mm mortar platoon, leading two mortar squads. England saw his first combat on Namur, and transferred to the Battalion Headquarters when his company disbanded in March 1944.
With HQ Company:
England continued to serve with the mortar section, and participated in the battles of Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. He survived the war unwounded.
Olin England remained in the service, seeing duty in Korea and attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He died in Los Angeles, and is buried in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Plot A-1 8.
