With Dog Company:
George Reilly was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He showed great skill with the 81mm mortar, and was made a squad leader in the fall of 1943. Reilly led his team into action on Namur, and was transferred to the battalion's Headquarters company in the spring of 1944.
With HQ Company:
Reilly was promoted to corporal shortly after his transfer. He continued to serve as a mortar squad leader during the battles of Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima, surviving the war unwounded.
