Sergeant William Greybill joined First Battalion on July 30, 1944, at the height of the battle of Saipan. He was one of several Marines from the First Joing Assault Signal Company to be transferred to the battalion's communications platoon.
Greybill served through the remained of Saipan and most of Tinian with the battalion. He was wounded in August, 1944, and did not return to the battalion.
