With Dog Company:
Donald McCoy joined Dog Company, 24th Marines in the fall of 1943. He served as an ammunition carrier for the 81mm Mortar platoon during the battle of Namur, and transferred to the battalion's headquarters company in the spring of 1944.
With HQ Company:
McCoy remained with the mortar platoon for the rest of the war. He saw action on Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima, and survived the war unwounded.
