Private Daurice Naron was one of the original members of Dog Company's headquarters section. He served as an ammunition carrier during trainign at Camp Pendleton. Naron was promoted to Private First Class on January 1, 1944, and served through the battle of Namur. He was transferred to the battalion's Headquarters Company in March, 1944.
With HQ Company:
Naron continued to serve as an ammunition carrier through the summer battles of Saipan and Tinian, and again during the battle of Iwo Jima in 1945.
NOTE: In an entry on the WWII Memorial Registry, a family member claims that Naron also served as an intelligence clerk and Japanese translator. While there is nothing to suggest this in the battalion muster rolls, it is interesting to note that Naron's MOS of 504 - Ammo Carrier - did not change in 1945. Almost every other member of the mortar platoon was listed as 607 - Mortar Crewman. Therefore, it is possible that Naron did change positions without the change in MOS.
Naron served through each battle and survived the war unharmed. He was discharged on October 25, 1945, and returned to his family in Texas. Eventually, Daurice headed a family of four children, eight grandchildren, and two great-granchildren. He retired after 27 years as an automobile salesman.
Daurice Naron died in texas in 2002.
