With Dog Company:
James Rainey was one of the original members of Dog Company, 24th Marines. He served with the 81mm mortar platoon during the battle of Namur, and transferred to the battalion's headquarters company in the spring of 1944.
With HQ Company:
Rainey continued to serve with the mortars following his transfer. He was wounded in action on June 20, 1944, while fighting on Saipan, but returned to duty three days later. Rainey served through the rest of the war without further injury.
He died in Georgia in 1971.
