Richard Davis was one of the original members of the Battalion Headquarters company. He served with the Wire Section of the Communications Platoon; as a corporal, he was in charge of one of the three wiring teams. Following the battle of Namur, Davis was promoted to sergeant and designated as the Field Wire Chief, leading the entire section and overseeing the laying out and maintenence of telephone lines during combat.
Sergeant Davis participated in the battles of Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima; he survived the war unwounded.
